Do It Yourself Issue, Renew and Return with OPAC

When using OPAC through the Heritage website you can issue, renew and return books 24/7 even when there is no librarian present.

Find the book you would like to Issue, Renew or Return and follow the instructions below.

Do not enter your user-name and password until you have clicked on Issue, Renew or Return.

DO NOT click on ‘Log-out’ or ‘Change user’ these are for administrative purposes.

Once into your account you can change function by clicking on the issue, renew or return buttons at the top left of the screen. So you can return some books and then renew others and issue as well. Here’s how

1.       ISSUE

  • Make sure the function is on issue. If necessary click on Issue at the top left of the screen
  • Open the front cover of the book and type in the R000***** number from the barcode stuck inside the book. When you key in the R you do not need to make it a capital, it happens automatically. There are always three zeros then five other numbers
  • Click on OK or Return
  • The book is now entered on your account. Make a note of the return date
  • Continue with the next book until all are issued to you

2.       RENEW

  • Make sure the function is on renew. If necessary click on Renew at the top left of the screen
  • Click on the book you want to renew, its barcode will appear in the box at the bottom left of the screen
  • Click on OK or Return
  • If you are renewing all your books then click on ‘Renew all’ above the account information on the right
  • Make a note of the new return date
  • You will not be able to renew your book if they are overdue. The fine needs paying first

3.       RETURN

  • Make sure the function is on return.  If necessary click on Return at the top left of the screen
  • Click on a book to be returned, the barcode appears in the box at the bottom left of the screen
  • Click OK or Return
  • Make sure each book to be returned has been removed from your account

ALWAYS click on the Back arrow at the very top left of the screen when finished to exit your account and leave the computer ready for the next user.

In event of computer failure book details can be entered on the sheet on the pink clipboard by the librarian’s computer monitor.
