RTC recently hosted the introductory training programme for the new gap year participants. Led by Tim Cobham from the Serious 4 God team, five “gappies” from churches around the UK received intensive training prior to going on placement both internationally and within the UK. Speakers included John Glass, Elim’s General Superintendant, Nigel Tween, Elim’s Director of Training and Chris Jones, Elim’s International Missions Director.
Participants also got an opportunity to sample college life at RTC first hand and several are considering returning next September to study on the Youth Ministry degree course after their gap year finishes.
In partnership with Elim International Missions, a number of exciting placements are planned including trips to The Phillipines, Kosovo and within the UK, to the Powerhouse Kids Club in Northern Scotland and schools work on the South Coast in Hastings. Commenting on the placements, Tim Cobham said, “the great thing about the gap year is the opportunity to go on a variety of placements both in the UK and around the world which can be tailored to the individual’s particular goals and desires. Gap participants will gain a huge amount of experience over the next few months and have the option to come back and study at RTC next year if they wish.”
A second intake is planned for January 2008 – if you want the chance to take part, contact Tim Cobham at tcobham@serious4god.co.uk or phone 01270 615400.
