What’s on Offer?
The School of Ministry is a one academic year (8 month) course that runs from the beginning of September until the beginning of May. This is an intensive course that develops students through lectures, tutorials and practical placements so that their God-given potential is released.
The School is ideal for those who either can’t commit to or don’t have the desire to do three years study. Instead this offers a great one year training course taking the best of the three year programme.
The structure is especially useful for those who feel God’s calling into leadership, particularly those who feel led towards ministry in the Elim Pentecostal church.
Others have been through the School in order to develop greater effectiveness as lay leaders in church or increase their ability as a disciple in the work place.
A ‘Made to Measure’ Course
Rather than have a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, the School aims, as far as possible, to provide a bespoke course for each individual student.
There are core modules that each student takes in Old and New Testaments, Christian doctrine, Christian foundations and Hermeneutics (Bible interpretation). After these, there are three main tracks to choose from:
• Bible/Doctrine
• Mission/Evangelism
• Pastoral/Church leadership
Depending on the track, the student can ‘cherry pick’ from the whole menu of modules on offer at Regents and, in consultation with a tutor, put together a tailor made course. Modules include: evangelism, ministry in the local church, Islam and the west, homiletics (preaching), pastoral letters, prison letters, John, 1 Corinthians, etc.
You will be required to submit essays during the course based on practical ministry issues. If you are not particularly academic, these are not meant to cause worry! You will be marked against yourself rather than against others.
Practical Training
Each student will be required to attend a placement during their time. This may be in a local church close to the college or a student’s home church depending on the students need. The placement enables theological preparation to meet with practical training which will give the student a rounded experience and ensure what is learned in the lecture room is practiced in the local church. School of ministry students will also participate in outreach events and visits to expose them to as broad an experience as possible during their time at college.
What Else?
Each school of ministry student will attend corporate devotions, communication class and tutor group. These enable each student to have input from course leader and Elim’s head of evangelism Gary Gibbs. During the year Gary will help shape and develop each student through these activities. Each student will also have one – to - one meetings with Gary to ensure their spiritual development .
Accreditation & entry requirements
This course is accredited by Elim/Regents and is not university validated. There are no academic entry requirements.
