Revd Malcolm J Duncan

Malcolm Duncan is Senior Minister of Kensington Temple in London, and Chairman of the KTLCC Church Board. Prior to that, he was Lead Pastor of Dundonald Elim Church in Belfast. He has been an ordained minister in the Elim Pentecostal Church since 1997, but engaged in pastoral ministry since 1987. He has a theology degree from Regents Theological College (Manchester University) and is currently engaged in doctoral studies exploring the role of the pastor in contemporary culture. He is the author of 16 books including Good Grief: living with sorrow and loss (Oxford: Monarch, 2020): Risktakers (Oxford: Monarch, 2013); I want to be a God-Gazer (Oxford: Monarch, 2015); the Niteblessings series and Flipped: Life in the Upside Down Kingdom (London: SPCK, 2023) which was the basis of the Spring Harvest event in that year, and A Higher Call: Life radically re-imagined through the Sermon on the Mount (London: SPCK, 2023). He is working on four more volumes which will each explore another of the five discourses in the Gospel of Matthew. He is married to Debbie, and they have been married since 1993, have four children and four grandchildren.

Research

Malcolm’s academic research interests rest in pubic, practical and pastoral theology and the overlap between these three foci from a Pentecostal perspective. He is particularly interested in the role of the pastor in public life, the role of the Spirit in contemporary public life, what Pentecostals contribute to the common good, and what an emerging Pentecostal public theology looks like.
Other Professional Activities

Malcolm chairs Agora – Elim’s Public Theology, Justice and Pastoral Ethics Taskforce. He also chairs the Elim Church’s Working Group on Human Sexuality and Personhood. He is also a member of the leadership team of the Elim Pentecostal Church in Ireland and a special advisor on issues of public theology to the National Leadership Team of the Elim Pentecostal Church. He is a member of the European Pentecostal Theological Association and of British and Irish Association of Practical Theology. Malcolm is theologian-in-residence for Essential Christian and Spring Harvest, and for Africa Inland Mission He is a global ambassador for Open Doors, and a national advisor to Redeeming Our Communities, Torch Trust for the Blind, Churches for All, the Kyria Network, and a public advocate of the work of Christians Against Poverty, Home for Good and Transforming Lives for Good. He is a member of the Evangelical Alliance Council, and has been an advisor to the UK government regionally and nationally on issues of faith, social cohesion and public life since 1997. He has been actively involved in the Peace Process in Northern Ireland since the late 1980s. Malcolm founded Church and Community, the Catalyst Network and was previously the Chief Executive of the Faithworks Movement and the Director of Church, Mission and Society at the Evangelical Alliance. He helped formulate the Micah Challenge, and was a key part of the Stop The Traffick Coalition in its early formation.
