PG Certificate in Applied Theology

About the Course

For those seeking an initial postgraduate University accredited qualification, the Postgraduate Certification in Applied Theology offers an achievable route for professional development tailored to your vocational requirements.

The available modules seek to foster depth of biblical insight and (self-) critical theological reflection on a wide variety of relevant topics, including Biblical studies, Christian leadership, or Pentecostal theology and Spirituality.

The course can be taken over one year (full-time) or two years (part-time) and comprises two optional modules. Students may choose an eclectic set of modules or focus on a particular discipline.

Modules are taught by a range of in-house and adjunct faculty who deliver specialist subject expertise whilst supporting you to become an innovative and independent learner.

Mode of Learning

The PG Certificate in Applied Theology programme can be completed in one year (full-time) or two years (part-time).

The full-time option involves completion of two optional modules within a single academic year.

The part-time option involves completion of one optional modules per annum over two academic years.

Postgraduate students usually live in their home environments and travel to the Malvern campus as required for the delivery of the modules. Each module usually runs as a classroom experience over a single week supported by online sessions before and afterwards.

When coming to Malvern, students can book into our Conference Centre (at preferential rates) for any days when they are on campus, with a choice of B&B or full catering options in the College dining room.

Programme Leader

Dr. Martin Clay BA, PhD

Martin has been at Regents since 2002. He has a BA (Hons) from the University of Manchester and a PhD from the University of Wales (Bangor). His doctoral studies explored the intersection of biblical theology and philosophical hermeneutics. Much of his teaching focuses on facilitating deeper Christian understanding of the Old Testament, especially the literature and theology of the Torah/Pentateuch and the Hebrew Prophets. His current research interests concern the critical interpretation of Genesis and Deuteronomy and the theological significance of the Old Testament for Christian faith. He also cultivates a critical interest in the philosophy of Martin Heidegger and its significance for theology.

Validation and Entry Requirements

Regents Theological College is an approved academic partner of the University of Chester. The Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Theology is validated by the University of Chester and students who successfully complete the programme will be eligible for a University of Chester award.

Entry requirements are as follows:

  • An initial degree in Theology or Applied Theology, and/or Religious Studies; OR
  • An initial degree in another subject, together with evidence of certificated learning in Theology and/or Applied Theology and/or Religious Studies, or substantial related experience; OR
  • A non-graduate qualification, with substantial professional experience in theology or ministry, evidenced in a summary of non-certificated and experiential learning.

A Statement of Comparability from UK ENIC and/or a recognised English language qualification may be required from students applying on the basis of non-UK qualifications.

The college is unable to issue CAS numbers for UK visa applications to international students.

Awards

Successful completion of the PG Certificate in Applied Theology requires that students obtain a total of 60 credits, comprising two 30 credit modules. Each of the available modules is valued at 30 credits.

Course Fees

There is no funding currently available for the Postgraduate Certificate programme via student finance,so applicants must demonstrate their ability to cover tuition fees and associated costs.
