This module investigates the major themes in the Pauline Corpus (both undisputed and disputed works). These include ‘Salvation and its metaphors,’ ‘Justification by Faith,’ ‘Covenant,’ ‘Paul and the Law,’ ‘The New Perspective,’ ‘Sin, Flesh and Death,’ the ‘In Christ’ concept, ‘Life in the Spirit,’ ‘The Righteousness of God,’ ‘Already – Not Yet’, ‘The Church,’ and ‘Eschatology.’
The approach taken will be topical, seeking to garner from several texts what Paul has sought to teach, and being careful in the exegesis to discern particular nuances in each occasional document. Moreover, in line with the programme’s overarching vision the student will be regularly challenged to envision real-life situations in which Paul’s teaching should impact their own understanding and actualisation of their own discipleship.
