Dr Claire Williams
BA MA PhD
Claire earned a BA in theology at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. After graduating she spent some time at home with her family raising her four boys, before returning to study. She completed an MA in theology at St Augustine’s College of Theology in Kent, and took her PhD at Durham University entitled ‘”In the kitchen because there’s no other space for me.” Testimony and epistemology in Newfrontiers women: A Charismatic Practical Theological investigation into the lived religion of Newfrontiers women in the UK.
Her work investigates the experience of women’s spirituality and practice, using empirical methodology, with research interests in motherhood and spirituality, feminist theology, embodied spirituality, and the practices of charismatic churches (in particular Newfrontiers). She is also interested in the Benedictine monastic traditions, trauma theology and charismatic studies.
Alongside her academic work Claire is Regents Academic Inclusion Advocate.
